Built for your kind of journey

Toyota Hiace Safari Tour Van is a customized passenger van designed specifically for wildlife touring rather than ordinary airport or hotel transfer work. It is an important product to keep separate from the standard Toyota Hiace passenger van in Courtesywide’s Car Hire section. The standard Hiace is intended for airport, SGR, hotel and corporate transfers, while the Safari Tour Van is modified with a pop up roof, safari suspension and game viewing features for national park and reserve itineraries. The vehicle is best suited to travellers who want a more affordable safari vehicle than a dedicated 4x4 Land Cruiser while still retaining proper wildlife viewing access. A typical safari tour van accommodates around seven guests plus the driver guide, and some conversions may seat eight guests depending on the vehicle layout. Courtesywide should confirm the exact guest capacity on the allocated unit because seat spacing, luggage area and roof access differ between conversions. The raised pop up roof allows guests to stand inside the vehicle for wildlife viewing when conditions and park rules allow. This gives the tour van a major advantage over a normal road minibus. Safari conversions commonly add reinforced or heavy duty suspension, charging points, a cool box, communication radio, first aid equipment, spare tyres and improved ground clearance. Some operators market 4x4 converted vans, but many Kenya safari vans remain two wheel drive with heavy duty suspension. Courtesywide should therefore never advertise four wheel drive unless the exact allocated van has that drivetrain. The Safari Tour Van is well suited to established circuits such as Nairobi to Maasai Mara in normal road conditions, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and other routes where road access is suitable. During heavy rain, black cotton soil or rough conservancy conditions, a proper 4x4 Land Cruiser can provide a significant advantage. For this reason, Courtesywide should recommend the Land Cruiser where terrain, season or the guest’s expectations justify the additional cost. A current 2026 Kenya reference from Stejos Tours lists a customized safari tour van from KSh 17,000 per day and states that the starting rate includes the customized van, comprehensive insurance and a professional safari driver guide, while fuel, park entry and overnight driver allowances are separate. Other Kenya safari transport operators quote tour vans around USD 150 per day with different inclusion structures. Courtesywide should therefore use KSh 17,000 as a starting reference and build the final rate around the exact route and operating costs.
