Leave Nairobi and travel north through the central highlands toward Samburu. The changing scenery marks the start of the north-to-south journey. Check in at the selected camp/lodge and take an afternoon game drive where arrival time permits, focusing on the Ewaso Nyiro river environment and the reserve’s distinctive dryland wildlife.
12-Day Grand Kenya Safari — Samburu, Ol Pejeta, Nakuru, Naivasha, Maasai Mara & Amboseli
A comprehensive north-to-south private Kenya safari with conservation, Rift Valley lakes, three Mara nights and an Amboseli finale.
Private Kenya safaris designed for international and non-resident travellers.
This twelve-day Grand Kenya Safari is the longest land-only private itinerary in this Courtesywide collection and is designed for travellers who want depth rather than simply counting parks. Two nights in Samburu open the route with northern species and riverine habitat. Two nights in Ol Pejeta/Laikipia provide time for wildlife and conservation. Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha each contribute a different Rift Valley experience before three nights in the Maasai Mara create the heart of the safari. The journey ends with two nights in Amboseli, giving a final contrast of elephants, wetlands and possible Kilimanjaro views. Current twelve-day Kenya safari listings show sustained demand for multi-region itineraries and for combinations linking northern Kenya, Rift Valley, Mara and Amboseli. Courtesywide’s version is intentionally structured around its destination, park, hotel and activity database so the same master itinerary can be customized without duplicating content.
Spend a full day on private game drives in Samburu National Reserve. Search riverine and dryland habitats for northern species, elephants, predators and birdlife. Optional experiences include a Samburu cultural visit, nature walk where permitted, dedicated photography or a sundowner. Return for a second night in Samburu.
A guided walking experience in a lodge, conservancy or approved area where walking is permitted, focusing on tracks, plants, landscapes and smaller wildlife.
Available upon requestA scenic sunset refreshment stop arranged by the selected camp or lodge in an approved location.
Available upon requestAfter breakfast, travel south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Check in and spend the afternoon on a private game drive introducing the conservancy’s wildlife and conservation work. The slower two-night stay gives flexibility for standard visitor experiences and any specialist conservation activity booked in advance.
Use the full day for Ol Pejeta wildlife and conservation. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary under current operating hours, explore rhino habitat and continue private game viewing. Additional conservation experiences can be integrated if booked, while the normal safari remains flexible around wildlife movement and guest interests.
A guided wildlife drive in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, selected from Nanyuki or Laikipia itineraries. Conservancy entry and vehicle arrangements should be costed separately from accommodation.
Available upon requestA conservation-focused visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary within Ol Pejeta, normally combined with a conservancy visit and subject to current visitor arrangements.
Available upon requestA behind-the-scenes conservation-focused activity arranged through the selected conservancy or lodge, potentially covering wildlife monitoring, community conservation or conservation operations.
Available upon requestDrive from Laikipia toward Nakuru and enter Lake Nakuru National Park for a private game drive. Explore lake-edge habitat, acacia woodland, open areas and viewpoints while looking for black and white rhinos, birds and general wildlife. Overnight in the selected Nakuru accommodation.
Take a final morning wildlife drive if required, then continue to Lake Naivasha. The day intentionally slows the pace between major parks. Choose a boat ride, Crescent Island walking experience, birding session or simply relax at the lodge. Active guests can request Hell’s Gate cycling or hiking if the schedule and current park conditions allow.
A guided boat excursion on Lake Naivasha for lake scenery, birdlife and wildlife observation from the water. Operating time and route depend on weather and water conditions.
Available upon requestA guided or hosted walking experience on Crescent Island, allowing guests to explore open landscapes and view wildlife on foot under the site’s operating rules.
Available upon requestA cycling excursion in Hell’s Gate National Park on routes open to bicycles, normally combined with park scenery and selected viewpoints. Bicycle hire and current access conditions should be confirmed.
Available upon requestA guided hiking experience in or around Hell’s Gate National Park using currently open and permitted trails. Route choice must reflect current park safety guidance.
Available upon requestDepart Naivasha after breakfast and travel to the Maasai Mara. Check in at the selected camp or lodge and head out for an afternoon game drive where arrival time allows. Your guide uses this first session to assess current wildlife activity and plan the next two full days.
Spend the full day exploring Maasai Mara. Follow current wildlife information, work through predator territories and riverine habitats, and allow time for elephants, plains game, birdlife and landscape photography. An optional sunrise balloon safari can be added before the main game drive.
A sunrise balloon flight over the greater Maasai Mara landscape, normally followed by a landing experience and breakfast arrangement depending on the operator. It is sold separately from normal game drives and must be pre-booked.
Available upon requestA second complete Mara day makes the safari less dependent on one day’s sightings or weather. Explore another sector, spend longer with worthwhile wildlife or add a cultural visit, conservancy walk where permitted, bush breakfast or sundowner. Guests focused on photography can keep the day entirely dedicated to game viewing.
A hosted cultural visit introducing Maasai homestead life, traditions and community stories. The visit should be arranged through an appropriate local host and presented as an optional cultural experience rather than part of the game-drive description.
Available upon request
A ranger- or guide-led walking experience in a conservancy or other area where walking is permitted. The activity focuses on tracks, plants, smaller wildlife, landscapes and safari interpretation away from a vehicle.
Available upon request
A late-afternoon scenic stop arranged in an approved location with refreshments as the light softens over the Mara landscape. It can be used for couples, private groups or special-occasion itineraries.
Available upon request
An outdoor breakfast arranged by the selected camp or lodge in an approved safari setting. Menu, venue, minimum guest numbers and weather backup arrangements vary by property.
Available upon requestLeave the Mara and begin the longer journey toward Amboseli, using Nairobi or another suitable point for a comfort and meal break according to the operating plan. Arrive at Amboseli and settle into the selected camp or lodge. Where timing allows, enjoy a short late game drive before dinner. Exact transfer timings are confirmed during quotation so the itinerary remains realistic.
Spend a full day in Amboseli. Begin early for wildlife movement, cooler conditions and the possibility of clear views toward Mount Kilimanjaro. Explore the marshes and plains, visit Observation Hill where appropriate and adapt the route around elephants, general game, birds and photography. Optional cultural, birding or sundowner experiences can be added separately.
A community-hosted Maasai cultural experience in the wider Amboseli area, arranged separately from park game drives and subject to the selected community programme.
Available upon requestA guided stop at Observation Hill for elevated views across Amboseli’s plains and wetlands. It works well as part of a park day while remaining a clearly identified experience point.
Available upon requestA sunset refreshment experience arranged by the selected lodge or camp in an approved scenic location outside restricted park rules where necessary.
Available upon requestUse the morning for a final Amboseli game drive or relaxed breakfast depending on the onward flight schedule. Leave the park and drive back to Nairobi for drop-off at the confirmed hotel or airport. A coast extension or Nairobi post-safari stay can be added as a separate component.

Is 12 days too long for a Kenya road safari?
For guests who enjoy wildlife and changing landscapes, 12 days allows a much less rushed rhythm. The route uses multiple two- and three-night stays rather than changing accommodation every day.
Where do we spend the most time?
The Maasai Mara receives three nights, while Samburu, Ol Pejeta/Laikipia and Amboseli each receive two nights.
Can the safari include domestic flights?
Yes. Long road sectors can be replaced with scheduled or charter flights where available, with the final quotation adjusted accordingly.
Can a beach stay be added after Day 12?
Yes. Diani, Watamu, Malindi or Lamu can be added as a separate coast extension using Courtesywide’s linked destination and hotel inventory.
Is the price fixed?
No. This is a master private itinerary. The final USD price depends on season, party size, lodge category, rooming, current fees and optional experiences.
