5-Day Maasai Mara, Nakuru & Naivasha Private Safari

Depart Nairobi in your private safari vehicle and descend toward the Great Rift Valley. This deliberately lighter first day works well after an international arrival and avoids beginning the safari with a rushed park schedule. Check in at the selected Lake Naivasha accommodation and enjoy the lakeside environment. Depending on arrival time, add a boat ride, birding session or Crescent Island walk, or simply use the afternoon to rest before the wildlife-intensive days ahead. Optional activities are confirmed separately so the itinerary remains flexible for families, photographers and travellers who prefer a slower start.

After breakfast, drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for a private game drive. The park is known for varied birdlife, scenic viewpoints and its importance as a sanctuary for both black and white rhinos. Explore the lake-edge habitats, acacia woodland and open areas with your driver-guide, stopping at suitable viewpoints where conditions allow. Wildlife sightings are never scripted, so the route is adjusted to current information and movement. After the game drive, transfer to the selected Nakuru accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Leave Nakuru after breakfast and travel toward the Maasai Mara. The road journey crosses productive highlands before descending toward the Mara ecosystem. Arrive at the selected lodge or camp, complete check-in and head out for an afternoon private game drive if timing permits. This first Mara drive is a useful orientation to the reserve or conservancy, allowing your driver-guide to assess wildlife movement and plan the following full day.

Dedicate the day to Maasai Mara wildlife viewing. Your guide can build the route around current predator sightings, riverine areas, open plains, birding interests or photography priorities. A picnic lunch can keep you in the field for longer, while a lodge lunch may suit guests who prefer a break in the middle of the day. Optional additions include an early hot-air balloon flight, Maasai cultural visit, sundowner or dedicated photography session. Because these experiences carry separate supplier and operating conditions, they are selected from the Activities library rather than embedded in the standard safari price.

Optional experiences

Hot Air Balloon Safari Early morning / approximately 3–4 hours

A sunrise balloon flight over the greater Maasai Mara landscape, normally followed by a landing experience and breakfast arrangement depending on the operator. It is sold separately from normal game drives and must be pre-booked.

Maasai Cultural Village Visit 1–2 hours

A hosted cultural visit introducing Maasai homestead life, traditions and community stories. The visit should be arranged through an appropriate local host and presented as an optional cultural experience rather than part of the game-drive description.

Maasai Mara Sundowner 1–2 hours

A late-afternoon scenic stop arranged in an approved location with refreshments as the light softens over the Mara landscape. It can be used for couples, private groups or special-occasion itineraries.

Enjoy breakfast and, where the selected gate, accommodation and onward travel time permit, a short final wildlife experience before beginning the road journey back to Nairobi. Arrive in the city for drop-off at the confirmed hotel or airport. Guests continuing elsewhere in Kenya can replace the Nairobi drop-off with another agreed transfer during quotation.
